King Birth Story

My birth story truly is a God thing, a true testimony.

I was originally given the due date of March 12th, but they switched it to March 15th.

I knew deep down that my due date would be earlier even after the change. I was having blood pressure issues through my pregnancy like the dizzy spells and vision issues.

The Saturday before I had Amelia, I called L&D after checking my blood pressure because it was 155/97 and I was having symptoms of it. They told me to rest and see what happens.

I called them 6 hours later saying that the symptoms still had not resolved and I felt in my gut that I needed to be seen. They told me to make my way over and checked my blood pressure.

They said it had reached normal levels, but my blood sugar was incredibly low, and they attributed my symptoms to that and sent me home after treating me. I still felt that it truly was my blood pressure causing me these problems and kept praying there would be some resolve.

On February 22nd, 2021, at 3:30pm, I went in for what was supposed to be my 37th week appointment.

I truly feel that it was a God thing that I had that appointment when I did. When I came in for my appointment, my blood pressure was checked, and sure enough it had peaked as high once again.

They decided to send me to be monitored and they watched as my blood pressure would sporadically change.

I knew that my mom gut was right about this and they finally diagnosed me with “Gestational Hypertension” and told me they would keep me.

Truly this was such a God thing for me because I had been so stressed about it from the moment I started feeling the symptoms. I had so much faith and trust that this would work out, that at 34 weeks I began to keep a hospital “go bag” in my car just in case this happened, and I was for sure staying.

I called my husband Andrew after receiving the diagnosis and I told him that it was finally

go time

and to drop our pets off with family!

He grabbed all the missing items that I did not have with me and raced over to the hospital to be with me.

Things went fairly fast from there.

The on-call doctor came in and asked when the last time I ate was. I told him that I had soup at 2pm. He then talked to the anesthesiologist. And they decided to prep me for a C-section at 8pm that night.

We both were excited to hear this, but there was some anxiety at the same time.

Most of my anxiety was over the spinal. I have had some preexisting back issues

Luckily, my anesthesiologist, although pretty cocky about his work, reassured me that it would be quick, simple, and easy.

I was prepped at 7:45pm and he was finished within 5 minutes.

I honestly ended up being anxious for nothing in the end.

At exactly 8:08pm I looked at Andrew and said to him, “Did they even start yet?”

8:09pm I heard Amelia crying and the emotions flew!

February 22nd, 2021 at 8:09pm, we finally had our baby girl with us.

Poor Andrew did not know what to do or think when they handed Amelia to him, it was honestly so sweet.

We were back in our room by 8:45pm with Amelia. After a long 36 hours of rest at the hospital, we finally went home on Wednesday the 24th at 12pm. I really did not give them much of a choice either. I was ready to head home and was greatly confident about it.

Coming home, I unexpectedly had some anxiety. Things like “Are you alive, are you breathing, are you okay?”, were at the front of my mind and still is. That is really my main point of stress right now.

Amelia is a great sleeper, and we are so thankful for that. Unfortunately, she has had some reflux issues. So that has been a bit of a challenge to navigate.

On the flip side of this, my favorite part of being a new mom is watching Andrew with Amelia.

It was definitely kind of weird to see it at first because he had never held a baby before, so it was super new to him and was very stressful as well.

I love watching him with her. My favorite part is when I catch him just staring at her randomly. I melt inside every time I see the two of them together.

He has been so attentive and helpful during my recovery.

It has been hard with him going back to work. We miss him so much during the day, but we deeply appreciate the sacrifice he makes to provide for us!

I love being a new mom and Amelia is truly the perfect baby. We could not have asked for a better baby!

I know the future holds a lot of change, but we are grateful for the blissful season we are in right now.
